Amethyst: What Is It?

In various shades of purple, amethyst is a form of quartz. It comes in many shapes and sizes and shades, making it extremely desirable for collectors and jewellery wearers.

Amethyst is February's birthstone, but is worn by many for it's broad range of depth of colour: from pale pastel lilacs to intense, rich purple. It's no wonder it's the most popular purple crystal in the world!

Where does it come from?

Amethyst is widely found all ove the world, but there are significant deposits in Brazil. Amethyst is formed on volcanic rock.

Grading

Amethyst is graded on its depth of colour with AAA grade being deepest purple and B grade being light purple. We love a range of shades here at Willow Rose Designs and have a variety of amethyst grades available !
